Made In Detroit has donated over $10,000 to The Barbara Ann Karmanos Cancer Institute from sales of ‘Rosie the Riveter’ Cancer T-shirt. Funding will benefit Karmanos’ breast cancer research programs. T-shirt sales began in June of 2011 and kicked off in part with Karmanos Partners’ fundraising efforts where Kid Rock, owner of Made In Detroit, and the Kid Rock Foundation were recognized by Karmanos for the extraordinary philanthropy that he and the organization has shown to Karmanos and the metro Detroit community as a whole.
Rosie the Riveter is a cultural icon of the United States, representing the American women who worked in factories during World War II, many of whom worked in the manufacturing plants that produced munitions and war supplies. These women sometimes took entirely new jobs replacing the male workers who were in the military. The character is considered a feminist icon in the US.
In honor of Rosie, proceeds from the sale of this shirt benefit breast cancer research at Karmanos Cancer Institute.
